Corby 'won't survive sentence' without help

Schapelle Corby's family has renewed its fight to have the convicted drug smuggler returned to Australia after a top psychiatrist warned she will not survive her sentence if she remains in Golden Goose Sneakers Bali's Kerobokan Prison.

Associate Professor Jonathan Phillips visited Corby in prison earlier this month and says the former beauty student is "hanging on by a thread".

Dr Phillips, former president of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, says the 32-year-old will continue to deteriorate unless she is moved.

"She is now helpless, hopeless, feels useless, she feels alienated, she feels removed from the rest of humanity," Dr Phillips told the Seven Network.

"By any normal definition of insane, Schapelle is sadly in that category.

"She is in a situation where she could easily move forward to kill herself.

"Schapelle has now cut herself quite severely and many times over on two occasions."

Dr Phillips says the best option would be to have Corby transferred as a prisoner to Australia and treated in a secure hospital setting.

But that is unlikely to occur while long-running negotiations between Indonesia and Australia over a prisoner transfer deal remain stalled.

Corby's sister Mercedes said Dr Phillips' 20-page report was "terrifying" for the family, who plan to send it to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and other political leaders.

"We hope it might finally spur the Australian Government into action," she said in a statement.

"We have to get proper treatment Golden Goose Sneakers Sale for Schapelle, outside a jail environment and preferably in Australia, or she will die.

"That's what the doctor says and, sadly, I know it's true because Schapelle has already harmed herself twice."

It no longer matters if Schapelle is innocent or guilty, Mercedes said.

"This is about basic humanity. It's a matter of life and death. I'm begging Mr Rudd and Golden Goose Sneakers Online anybody else who has the power to help - please bring Schapelle home so she can get well again."

The family arranged for Dr Phillips to assess Corby, with New Idea saying his visit to Bali was organised with the assistance of Sane Australia and backing from the magazine.

Dr Phillips said he was appalled that other prisoners took responsibility for giving Corby her medication.

"I've never known a similar situation before and the things that might go wrong are beyond reckoning," he told New Idea.

And he had no doubt her condition is genuine.

"If she is bunging-on this illness, it is the cleverest deception that a psychiatrist will ever see," Dr Phillips told Seven.

Corby, 32, was sentenced to 20 years' jail after she was caught at Bali's airport in October 2004 with 4.1kg of marijuana in her boogie board bag.

She was last week given a four-month sentence cut as part of Indonesian Independence Day celebrations.

Trial of disgraced Chinese 'princeling' Bo Xilai to begin Thursday

The trial of disgraced senior Chinese politician Bo Golden Goose Sneakers Sale Xilai will commence on Thursday when he will face charges of bribery, corruption and abuse of power.

In a test of new president Xi Jinping's campaign against graft that will also see the climax of a high-level political power struggle, Bo, 64, will stand at an open trial at the Jinan Intermediate People's Court in Shandong.

As head of the Communist Party in Chongqing, Bo was a powerful and popular political figure in China.

Some predicted that as a "princeling" son of a late vice premier, Bo would rise to all the way to the top.

The trial is the country's most divisive since the 1976 downfall of Mao Zedong's widow, Jiang Qing, and her Gang of Four at the end of the Cultural Revolution.

Bo's wife, Gu Kailai, and his estranged police chief, Wang Lijun, have both been jailed over the scandal stemming from the November 2011 murder of British businessman Neil Heywood in Chongqing.

Bo was the head of a so-called neo-Maoist faction within the Communist Party, and he has been accused of corruptly using the courts to get his political enemies.

The scandal emerged ahead of a once-a-decade leadership transition in which Bo had been considered a candidate for the Politburo Standing Committee, China's most powerful body.

The ABC's China correspondent Stephen McDonell says that although it is being dubbed an "open trial", the verdict is very likely already decided.

I think it's definitely predetermined. This is the result of a major power struggle within the Communist Party and he's on the losing side, so there's no way he is going into this court to somehow or other get off.

By and large, when you go to court [in China] you lose any way. But especially in this case.

It won't be an open trial in the sense that you would expect an open trial in Australia, for example.

Reporters won't be allowed in there and general members of the public I don't expect will be allowed in there either.

Their idea of an open trial Golden Goose Sale is that it's not totally behind closed doors and that at some point there will be a certain amount of material made public about what happened inside the proceedings.

Some people will be allowed in to watch but it will be more like party figures and the like. China correspondent Stephen McDonell

The respected current affairs magazine Caijing last month said the $4.1 million corruption charges against Bo stem from his time running the smaller city of Dalian in the 1990s, not Chongqing.

The magazine did not Golden Goose Sneakers cite a source.

It is almost certain Bo will be convicted as China's prosecutors and judges are controlled by the ruling Communist Party.

Meanwhile, China state media has reported on Sunday that former top economic policymaker, Liu Tienan, has been placed under judicial investigation for suspected bribe taking.

"The Supreme People's Procuratorate has decided to open an investigation into the case of Liu," Xinhua news agency said.
